Haydon Kerk Z-Theta series offers linear and rotary point-to-point motion in a compact footprint, providing flexibility, value, durability, and performance suited for a host of lab automation, semiconductor, and light factory automation applications.

The Z-Theta’s highly configurable design is ideal for easy integration into original equipment manufacturers’ assemblies. Unlike in-house designs comprised of multiple components that require added engineering, vendors, and assembly integration, Z-Theta is a modular “bolt-in” package that allows customers to benefit from reduced complexity.

At its core, Z-Theta features the patented ScrewRail® linear actuator, which combines guidance and linear transmission in a slender co-axial profile. Haydon Kerk Pittman’s unique dual-motion integration with a pair of stepper motors adds rotary (theta) motion in a manner that reduces motion system size by 50-80 percent and provides as much as a 60 percent overall cost reduction when compared to traditional design approaches.

Customers can further customize Z-Theta for their specific performance needs with a variety of lead screw resolutions, available free-wheeling and anti-backlash nut selections, stepper motor configuration options, and optical encoder line counts.

Haydon Kerk Stepper Drives

Haydon Kerk Stepper Drives are High Performance Micro stepping Chopper Drives based on some of the most advanced technology in the world today. Providing a cost effective solution for production volume requirements, the small size allows designers to use these Drives in limited space and they are also easily integrated with other electronic systems. Design time is reduced because incorporating these Drives is far simpler than developing a custom drive circuit. They are suitable for driving 2-phase step motors (maximum current ratings of 2.8 A and 5.5 A rms per phase). These specially designed Drives deliver optimum performance throughout a greater speed range.

By using an advanced bipolar constant-current chopping technique, and a maximum input voltage of 80 VDC, they can produce more speed and power from the same motor, compared with traditional technologies such as L/R drives.

AMETEK slotless brushless motor designs offer many advantages over conventional slotted stator construction. Negligible magnetic cogging provides improved servo efficiency and enables extremely smooth, quiet motion. Low inductance and high current bandwidth provides precise control. Slotless construction also provides excellent winding head transfer for high thermal efficiency and transient load capacity. These motors are smaller, lighter and more efficient than brush motors with comparable outputs.

AMETEK slotless brushless motors have no teeth to attract the magnets, cogging is eliminated, and the motor produces smooth, quiet rotation. The absence of teeth also provides room for larger and more wire in the windings, which means that slotless motors can generate more torque without a corresponding increase in size. Additionally, the slotless design significantly reduces damping losses. In both slotted and slotless motors, eddy currents are induced as the magnets pass the stator. However, these currents are weaker in slotless motors, because the distance between the stack and the magnets is greater than in slotted motors. This makes slotless brushless motor more efficient than slotted motors.

Pittman Brush Commutated DC Servo Motors

AMETEK brush commutated DC motors are instrument grade and are IP42 rated construction including a wide range of rated torque and speeds in a compact design. These motors offer smooth, quiet operation and long life. Armatures are skewed to minimize magnetic cogging, even at low speeds, and some windings are resin impregnated for greater reliability in incremental motion applications. Different optical incremental encoder resolutions are available on all models for reliable position, velocity, and direction feedback (most encoders feature rugged metal housings).
